They Thought I Hadn't Seen
Someone asked me directly in the group chat if I'd done the thing I'd promised. I saw it immediately and decided to wait. Hours later I replied with 'Sorry, only just seen this.' They were polite but I could tell they knew. I do this more than I admit: delaying, then acting like technology is the culprit. It buys me time and it makes the other person feel unreasonable for being annoyed. It's a small lie with a big effect on trust.
