I altered payroll figures every month and kept the changes small. I added minutes here, adjusted overtime there, always rounding so it looked natural. Over time it added up to a second income. Nobody checked because the totals balanced and staff trusted the system. When people questioned shortfalls, management blamed software errors and moved on. I benefited quietly for years while everyone else absorbed the loss collectively. When the company eventually folded, staff blamed the economy. I knew exactly where part of their missing money had gone and never said a word.
