Changed a Detail in a Story
I told a story about a row at work and changed one key detail so I sounded calm and reasonable. In truth, I snapped first. Everyone nodded along with my version, and I felt it settle into place as the accepted truth. After that, I repeated it the same way, like I was rehearsing a character. The real version started to feel less real, which is the part that scared me. I didn't correct it because I liked the respect it bought me.
